Seattle is a city where hills mesh with water.  Glorious, sea and lake views are everywhere. Attractions at Seattle Center, Downtown, the Waterfront and around Pioneer Square are in clusters which make for a great city break from two to four days.

As we described in our last newsletter, a hotel boom is adding a further 24 hotels to the Greater Seattle area by the end of 2017. Here we focus on two in downtown Seattle plus one in the heart of wine country in eastern Washington.

Style, Luxury and Service SLS – Downtown Seattle

In the boutique luxury market this SLS (Style Luxury and Service) hotel will take 15 of the 43 storeys in the Mark Tower to create a hotel where visitors can mingle with the local Seattle community. Innovators and cultural renegades will all be united by a spirit of uncompromising creativity.

This game-changing collaboration of SBE Founder and CEO Sam Nazarian and iconic designer Philippe Starck will lend a vibrant sensibility to the Downtown Seattle skyline. Located in the 5th and Columbia Tower, SLS Hotel Seattle will include 189 guest rooms and suites, nearly 13,000 square feet of food and drink offerings, 28,000 square feet of conference and event space, and state of the art spa and fitness facilities.

Roosevelt becomes Theodore

Hotel Roosevelt has been a part of the Downtown Seattle skyline since 1929.  The Provenance Hotel group are totally transforming this art deco icon and are about to reopen it as Hotel Theodore  The Provenance group, which also owns and manages the Hotel Max and more traditional Paramount Hotel in Seattle, as well as the extravagant glass art of the Hotel Murano, Tacoma, has a manifesto which aims to run their hotels gracefully, walking ‘the high-wire between seamless efficiency and palpable human connection’.

In the East – The Lodge at Columbia Point

200 miles east of Seattle, The Lodge is the final piece in the jigsaw of marina development at Columbia Point, in Richland. This lies at the heart of Washington State wine country which extends all the way from Yakima in the west to Walla Walla in the east. More than half of Washington State’s 900 wineries can be found in wine country. The 82 rooms and suites at The Lodge will each be named after a winery in the local area, many of them at nearby Red Mountain. The waterfront patio and outdoor fireplace will offer a special place to experience new regional wines and craft brews.
